X-Mid Pro 2 Mods

When it’s hailing outside and wind gusts are up to 70mph, what else can you do but tinker with your gear (not an euphemism). Here’s a list of mods I’ve made on my Pro 2.

Corner guys upgrade

Removed the factory corner guys and replaced them with DD Ironwire with extra length. Comes handy in rocky soil.

Zip line reinforcement

Added DD Ironwire loop to door zip bottom, which makes the door seam stronger in high winds, but left the original shock cord for milder conditions.

Added Dutchware glow shock cord to long wall hem loop

There are two knots for quick options for different heights.

Replaced the bathtub pole loop with a longer Dutchware glow shock cord

If/when using baskets, the factory short loop makes the basked crush bathtub wall. While doing this I discovered that the bathtub had already torn on the base of the pole loop, maybe because of this very reason.

WIDe Side Panel Loops

Added Dutchware glow shock cord loops to wide side mid panel loops for giving a bit of play for the guy in high winds to prevent ripping of this non-structural loop.

Line Lok Hook lines for wide side mid panels

They have a hook instead of ladder and a Line Lok so that I can just hook the Line Lok to shock cord and tighten it, rather than having to tie knots. (photo TBA)

Line Lok Lite APEX Loops

I made the loops with 10mm grosgrain and Line Lok Lites, the same ones that come with the tent for perfect fit with DD Ironwire.

Door Buckles

Added Wild Skye Gear DCF tape buckle on the outside door. These won’t most likely reinforce the door much, but make setting up easier by open zip with taut hem and also allows more ventilation without exposing the inner to rain.

Hanging Line

Added Zpacks DCF grosgrain loops on the inside apex line for hanging things.

Added ring magnets to inside door ties

The ring magnets weigh about a 1g a piece. Magnets are from Aliexpress.

BURRITO BAG

Made a Burrito bag out of 20D ripstop Poly and 3mm shock cord for easy packing the Pro and it now fits on the pack side pocket or top/bottom of the pack.

I’ve yet to take the Pro out with these mods but I’ll report back how they worked when I do and maybe even make a video.
