X-Mid Pro 2 Mods & Repairs

My X-Mid Pro 2 is the first generation, first batch version. As the saying goes, never buy the first version, but I did, such is life. I noticed that the bathtub pole loops had torn off a bit. This most likely happened when I was camping on uneven ground being battered by high winds. I also had baskets on my poles. The uneven ground, with short pole loops and baskets created too much tension, especially since I had to pitch the tent very taut due to high winds. This was the result (photo on the right). Luckily the tear was only on the outer fabric and not the inner, so the floor was still waterproof.

I reached out to Durston support and got some instructions. They offered me a free repairs, but it meant I would’ve had to send it to Canada and I didn’t want to the hassle of worrying about losing the parcel and possible customs issues. I also potentially need the tent in 3 weeks time.

Following Dan’s instructions, this is how I repaired the tear.

1. I increased the shock cord size to work with baskets.

2. Cut a piece of the stuff sack & reinforced it Tenacious tape

3. Tack stitched the webbing it through all the layers including the new patch

4. Added Tenacious tape inside to cover everything

It might be bit of an overkill, but I like to be safe.

Here’s the repair from inside & outside:

I also did a reinforcement mod. In the notorious wind test My Life Outdoors revealed a potential failure point on the Gen 1 Pro 2, the two corner guy out points.

I added an extra tack stitch on the seam of the two corner guy out points to prevent the ripping off. The addition is a bit lighter coloured tread, second tack from the outside.

Next project is a groundsheet for the Pro 2
